I was really pleased with how it turned out. Then to see my neighbor's reaction when I delivered it to him was just humbling and thrilling all at the same time. He was more than delighted with it. And best of all, he told me how much his wife would have loved it. I held it in till I got home then I cried.

The quilt is such a lovely gift, you put such a lot of thought and care into making it. It will be his treasure always.

Me too! ;-]

I still have all the Pendleton wool shirts I made each year for DH over 35-40 years, any interest in ... Oh, never mind. :-}

It brought tears to my eyes, as well. A work of love for a dear friend's memory. It is beautiful, Sharon. Emily

Thanks, Juno. I can't remember one quite as important to me. He told me a couple days later that he had emailed pictures to his mom, sister and son. They all thought it was wonderful too. Which set me right off again. But, they were good tears.

That's what he told me. :)

I would happily sew anything for you -- whatever, whenever. But you could do something like this if you wanted.

DH has a small quilt that one of his great-grandmothers made. It's all pieces of wool shirts and suits her husband had worn out over the years. That thing weighs about a ton, but talk about a WARM quilt!!! Unfortunately, it's all the old, rough wool. It isn't a cuddly quilt. It's what you put on the floor then cover with a couple baby blankets to make a cushy place for the visiting baby to play on the floor. Sharon

My trouble is that I sewed each of those shirts with a great deal of love and care (you know just how much I match everything). The thought of cutting them up is more than I can handle. And yet, I do not want to donate them to charity, either. Catch 22... ;-}

I have thought about making a lap quilt for each family member. Not a full blown bed quilt, that would be heavy and too warm. The Pendleton wool is really nice stuff, and each of the shirts had been worn and laundered dozens of times, so they are all pretty smooth.

Maybe some day....
