Ugly "fashion"

Gotcha. nope, don't do denim and such, some light-weight cottons for more than casual/less than formal summer events, but that's it

Oh!! This reminded me of something really chuckle-worthy. Some of you know this, but I started substitute teaching this school year. Love it. I work in the Jr. and Sr. High schools only. (The kids are 13+. You do actually see flashes of maturity from time to time. lol The elementary kids are all so sweet, but they wear me out by the end of the day!! lol) Anyway.....

The current trend of HUGE pants on the guys is thick here too. One of the Resource Officers (city police officer stationed at the school to prevent problems *and* protect/assist the students) has started something that just cracks (pardon the pun) me up!!! He carries zip ties in his pocket. Like these:

You canuse these for fastening all sorts of things. When he sees one of the boyswith baggy pants that hang down, creating vistas none of us need to see, hewill call the student into his office. He makes the boy pull his pants upwhere they ought to be, then the officer runs a zip tie through 2 of thebelt loops on the back of the pants. When the zip tie is pulled tight, itcinches the pants up to the waist size they really should be. He also callshome and lets the parents know what he did. lol I found out about thiswhen one of my students was getting razzed by the other guys in class. Theywere talking about zip tie this and zip tie that. So I asked what they weregiving him grief about. He turned around, showed me the zip tie and told mewhat happened. He said the worst part was his mom was home when the ROcalled her. She said they would be going shopping for some more appropriatejeans that night and there would be no repeat offense. heh hehSharon

None of my kids or friends are wearing hoodies. Haven't noticed it around the traps, but they don't let me out much! Fey

And I'll never again make a dress shorter than ankle length, unless I also make a matching pair of slacks.

Pantyhose are for the birds.

Tights aren't all that great either -- unless they have a seam up the back of each leg. My hips, hosiery manufacturers will be astounded to learn, are bigger around than my ankles!

Yes, and there are more of us than the other brand.

Some years back a lady made me a East Indian outfit after I did a North American Indian one for her daughter for a school play. I loved that ankle length dress and pants so much I bout wore them out. It was a summer outfit and much cooler than shorts and T shirt and very very comfortable. I still have the dress and it hangs in my sewing room window as a very pretty drapery. The window is much smaller that I am now so the dress fits it perfectly.

What a great story, and what a good idea the officer had! At our local high school there is a dress code, and those types of pants are forbidden, thank goodness. As is any girls' clothing that reveals too much, in any way, t-shirts with obscene sayings, and a few other things that ought never to have been foisted on the populace in the first place. I'm all for kids expressing themselves, but they don't need to offend others in order to do that. Just my two cents' worth.

Have you seen the made-to-show bras w/ fancy straps? I've seen rhinestones and studs on bra straps. Yuck.

I don't like the sweat pants w/ a logo or message appliques across the backside rainbow-style. Young girls wear these to advertise their personal sports. "cheer" is another popular butt message. I saw a pair of these pants on an older overweight woman. She had enough room for a 3-paragraph essay across her tush.

ROTFL!!!!!!!! Oh that's a good one! And all the more funny 'cause I think I saw her just the other day. ;D I was with one of my pals and it was all we could do not to pull the poor thing aside and explain to her that some things just should not be worn out in public. They are ridiculous even on the young girls. But there comes an age when it's time to stop dressing like a teenager. Like, when you are parenting one. ;)

Best ask for them to be blessed with the courage to take the criticism also.

When a 40+ year old woman with an apple shaped body wears hot pink sweats that say "HOTTIE" in 2" letters across her more than ample behind (and the pants are snug enough to show the dimples in the same behind) there are going to be comments. Comments, not compliments.

I'm very much in favor of folks exploring and expressing their own personal style. That's a whole lot of fun. (and we've all had fashion faux pas.....I lived through the 1980's...that was mostly a decade of fasion faux pas!! lol) But some outfits are a whole lot more wrong than others. And since this is a place for us all to voice our personal opinions, we use it as such.
