Waistband change

Hi all, To change a fitted waistband to a pull on waistband; what changes would you make to the pattern? I have an idea how to do it but I'd like to hear others opinions or experiences.

Thanks, AK in PA

In order to add the ease necessary to pull them on past your hips (without a zipper), the waist has to be expanded to the hip measurement, *plus a little*. Usually, it's sufficient to leave darts unsewn, and draw a straight line up from the full hip point to the waist, at the side seams (and CB and CF it they taper at all) and add a casing.

The stretch of the fabric matters. Pin the fabric you intend to use into a circle the size of the waist you intend to make, then see whether you can pull it over your hips without bending the pin.
