Yes, I saw that this morning. Personally, I'd rather have my ashes dug in round the roses in the churchyard, but dh wants us to be in the columbarium eventually. Oh well, I've spent my entire married life living where he wanted trather than where I would have preferred, so what's the diff? I won't be alive to notice anyway.

Cute! Reminds me of my God Mother's husband telling me when she passed away, he planned to have her funeral in one of the casinos in town. After she retired, she loved to play the nickel machines; she & her friends met there often. Emily

I think I would prefer to have mine scattered at my favorite stretch of Oregon beach, and I'm still storing DH's for the same place. The DDs and DGC can have a nice vacation while taking care of it.

My husband and his siblings arranged to have a bench put on a biking trail in South Dakota, before their father died. It was to be a surprise for him on their next biking trip, but he slipped away one morning, sitting on his front porch after he had fed the dogs. They continued with the plan, and had the plaque include his dates of birth and death, and their next biking trip (a family tradition of sorts) they took his ashes there and scattered them around "his" bench. I can't think of a better thing to do with them.

We have a regional park here where you can have a tree planted and a marker placed. Apparently, the park rangers look away if you scatter ashes around the tree. I like that, too.

Both excellent solutions!

What a lovely idea. My family knows that when the time comes, dh and I want to be scattered somewhere. Don't waste money on a fancy coffin and a plot of land in perpetuity; from dust to dust is good enough for us. I quite like the idea of fertilizing something that will, in turn, fertilize something else.

About two years ago, maybe more, during an Phila. Eagles football game a guy ran onto the field and scattered his mother's ashes. Of course he didn't get too far before he was tackled by a couple of guards, but the whole thing was publicized in The Philadelphia Inquirer. Seems his mom was quite a fan, and even though she had moved out of state to live with her kids, he knew she'd love to again be part of the stadium she loved.

Well, the Eagles now play in a new stadium...that old one is now a paved parking lot. But I still kind of like what he did, even if he was fined for doing it.
