can anyone tell me how to stop the ink getting on the wood as it is ruining some of my stamps?

If they're self-assembly stamps, try spraying the wood with polyurthane before assembling. My Mom and sister have done it and say it works great, all they have to do is wipe any ink off the wood.

Do you mean the wood of the stamp itself? That won't ruin the stamp. I gave up worrying about keeping my stamps looking like new a long time ago. Decided I liked the "used" look, LOL.
