I have only been stamping less than a year but already have trouble finding certain stamps. I have been wondering about making my own stamps but have no idea where to start. Is it difficult? Do I need a lot of special equipment? Any information would be appreciated. (I have very little artistic ability and WILL NOT be attempting to chisel out a piece of rubber!)

Getting into making your own stamps can be very expensive or it can be cheap. If you just want a few stamps, several companies will do them for you at a reasonable cost. You can check out repeat impressions for one company. If you are thinking of becoming a stamp vendor and making your own line, again you can go cheaper or expensive. In RSM there are several companies that will help you make your mag and your mold and press your rubber sheets..or you can by a vulcanizer for a few thousand $$ and press your own. You still need to buy the mag and make the mold. Then there is the cost of a catty to get your images out there so you can recoup some of your money. Time for me to trot out my favorite way of getting your own images made into real red rubber stamps:

or print as many clear, high-contrast black and white images as you can fir on a 9"x7" piece of paper and they'll turn it into a sheet of rubber, ready to trim and mount. And the money goes to a good cause - the United Cerebral Palsy Association.
