Braide rug Directions for no sew braided rug?? Also repair help!

Thanks for the pointer re Google,,(uhh duh)...I will check over those pages you gave me & see if any of them have directions fo a NO SEW BRAIDED rug. Most all the braided rug directions I found on the internet....YES I DID LOOK !! Were for ones to be braided & then sewn-up. Looking for directions for one you braid & do not then sew up.

They are not "sewn" -- they are "laced." You use a bodkin or something like that to carry the cord to lace braid to braid -- not going through the fabric, but through the gap between strands of the braid.

Sorry I used the term sew instead of laced. Anyways the way my Great G-ma would do it there was no lacing or sewing.

I do know how to make braided rugs. But, am looking for one that is not laced up but is braided together as you go along. No cord involved only the fabric.

I have been playing with some different ways to accomplish this, but was hoping to find somebody who might have old directions, preferably ones which have been handed down.

The rag rugs that I remember not being sewn or laced together were actually crocheted, not braided. I have made a couple of smaller ones and they work up quite well. The same technique is used with torn cottons to make hot pads, etc.. I was actually thinking of the poster who mentioned mending bed linens because that is what my old sheets used to end up as - hot mats! I found this site when I googled, which might help you:

Well looks like there is a way of doing the rugs called braiding in. Somebody else gave me a line into some directions.....Now if I could find somebody who has actually done it so I could as all my silly technical questions!!
