Some, ok two, of you might recall my newly discovered signature objectsin which I leave about 2 to 3 in. of the branches sticking out ofNorfolk Is. pine spindles. I was really proud of my unique approach tofine art til someone who shall be nameless, mentioned that the up-turnedbranches add a sort of phallic look that I wasn't striving for. Weartists are horribly driven and we expect to suffer for the sake of ourart, however I'm seriously considering resigning to become a simplewoodturner again.I can't see the d... branches even at low rpm and I've had so manyscrapes and bruises lately that neosporin and band-aids have become asignificant expense of my atelier work. I had hoped to recoup from salesto collectors, trophy wives, and other well pursed types, but so far, ithasn't happened.Anyway, Lorraine doesn't think much of my journey into art, so I havecome to sneaking into the house to wash out my wounds with LDD, dressthem and hide the blood. There's a lot of it since I take aspirin. Myinjuries are minor so far.I don't know what's worse for someone who already knows to be careful;"you should be more careful, Dear" (as if I don't start out to becareful) or the somewhat sharper "I wish you would stop making thosethings before you really hurt yourself, Arch". Heretofore, cheating onmy wife involved sneaking two eggs for breakfast when she was away, butlately it's clandestine meetings with BFI and bandages.Meanwhile I type this with damaged fingers to inquire: Do any of yousneak band-aids and hide your wounds as if you didn't know to be carefulwhen turning wood. you might note that strobes can have very adverse effects on some people.. especially those on some types of medication... They had to take them out at my wife's old job at an health care place because they can cause seizures or something..

I told my wife that my experience as a machinist and die maker had taught me that an occasional cut was part of the price of working with sharp tools but that I would do my best to keep the small cuts small.

Then again, when I had a piece of bowl come whizzing past my ear, I waited until it was 'old news' before mentioning it to my wife.

She seems to handle such things better if there is at least a week between the incident and the report.
