Balls again _ continuing problems

Thanks to everyone who responded to my recent questions on how to best make acceptably round spheres (40mm diameter). I was able to start constructing a device for the lathe from a description from Fred Holder and straight away I was able to strart experimenting using the pieces of tube as a tool. However no matter how I tried to sharpen the end of the pipe I could not get an edge that would cut. I tried "internal grinding" "flat grinding" and "external grinding" as well as every angle in between. I tried to email for more detail to several of the people how responded to my initial posting but so far I haven't herd back from them. If anyone reading this can give me a further clue - maybe a sketch ? - in how ths tube is made to cut I would be very grateful. regards G

I responded to you 2 times. Maybe you didn't get them. Check your e-mail for a picture of a sphere scraper I made. Bob, Naugatuck Ct.

(clip) ^^^^^^^^^^ I have had success (and I know others as well) using a hole saw, with the teeth ground off, and sharened. This is made of hard steel. A pipe is fairly soft, and will not hold an edge, even if you do get it sharp.
