Well, if you must...

Consider the following:

There are at least 20 major religions on this planet. By definition, at least 19 of them are wrong. Any adherent of any religion who has not studied the others has at best only a 5% chance of having picked the right one.

"Fools rush in where angels fear to tread." Brent, here I rush. First of all, please do not tar all evangelicals with the same brush. Mostly we try to demonstrate and proclaim the love of God to humanity. God is not a minion to be manipulated with a magic spell. Some people have prayed the "sinner's prayer," a variant of the one quoted beforehand, meant it, and been saved. Others have simply meant it without having a clue what the prayer might be. Same result. What God is looking for is faith, a heart change not a set of words. In fact the terminology changes with the denomination. Same God, same love, same result, different words.

Incidentally, the general understanding of baptism is that it is not necessary for salvation. In protestant ranks, those who hold to infant baptism generally see it as a continuation of the idea of circumcision under the new covenant with Christ while those who practice believer's baptism see it as an action of witness and obedience. Some such as the Society of Friends (Quakers) do not practice baptism at all and I do not see it as an impediment to Heaven.

I am not sure of the Catholic position since Vatican II but surely prior to the Council the stand was that baptism was necessary to salvation. However, the largest group of "born again Christians" in the United States on a denominational basis is found in the Roman Catholic faith.

No I am not trying to turn this into a religious forum but questions were raised and I have tried to answer them as best I might. Can we get back to turning wood now? I am under the impression that this forum is open to all races, creeds, colors and sexes. Why do we not simply try to side with the Apostle and seek to "keep peace with all men as much as I am able?"

Yea, baptism is a touchy subject of religion.

No, I was mainly wanting to lighty poke fun at the this sort of prayer that this guy suggested. I honestly don't see how one could just say that prayer and expect to be 'saved' or otherwise. It takes much more than that, including faith, works, etc..... He sounded like some of these nutty TV preachers that suggest the same thing. Not saying that this prayer is a bad thing, but rather it'll lead people to beleive that all they have to do is recite it and BAMN! they're saved.

How about this one, will this work too?

The point is, no one cares what drivel you care to spout- just like no one cares about old 19th century occultism. Why don't we care? Because we're here to jaw about turning wood.

Keep your nonsense to yourself, please- or at least find a more appropriate outlet.

Back to what it is all about. Has anyone suggested door wedges for craft fairs. Can be made from pine cut offs and you turn two at a time. Cheap and easy, and sell well.

There is an article by Joe Herrmann in the Spring 2006 issue of Woodturning Design. It shows how to make them and has some nice pictures.

I watched Martin Pridgen from England turn a couple of them at a demo once at the shindig held at Craft Supplies the day before the turning symposium at BYU in Provo, UT. They looked pretty simple to make and came out well, of course Martin is a master turner and could do them in his sleep. I bought a set of them from him made from osage orange and they work like a charm.

You may be able to find a website for Martin and find a picture. Woodturning Design has a website and Joe Herrmann used to post here from time to time. Joe is the editor of the magazine.

Yes here is the web site again. You turn the two knobs on a square piece of scrap and then saw it into two doorstops on the band saw 2 for the price of one.
