Hi guysThis is a first for me with newsgroups and I don't know ifit is alright to put a question about my router.I bought a Craftsman Prosessional Plunge Router (Model No315.248870) in July 2002. I used it two to three times at themost. Last time that I used it ( yeasterday afternoon), sparksand/or arc was showing through the vent slots. Not wantingto do damage to it, I stop it immediately. Since it is montedon a router table I reached under and touched the router bodyto see if it as hot. It was cold and I tought so since I only doneabout two feet of edging on a soft piece of spruce. So, I hitthe triger but to my dismay it would not go. I checked the plugand the fuse box to no avail.This morning I took the souter off the table and as I handledit some thing seemed to giggle inside the casing. I turned itright side up and then upside down hoping what ever wasloose would come out. All I got was some small black piecesof what the motor brushes are made of. Upon investigatingthe brushes, one of them had broke in half.I opened the casing hoping to retreived the broken particle ofthe the brush before inserting a new one. To my supprise Ifound three or four small pieces of the stater all chewed up.Needless to say I am returning this router for service. Hasany of you had a similar experience? What could have causedthe brush to desintergrate? What did I do wrong? This routeris brand spanking new. What gives?Gill

An acquaintance had three of the new 15" Craftsman lathes in three months. All had spindle/bearing trouble. Last I heard he was going to try to get a refund and buy something else.

Seems, that Craftsman still makes a shi**y router. Bout 20 year ago had a Craftsam router, used it once. About a year later went to use it and it tossed a commutator bar....! Tried to get warranty and was SOL. Never bought a Craftsman power tools since.
