DVR 3K Modes

I've tried the Nova owners group, and Technatool for info. but not much of a response as of yet. I'm trying to get more information regarding the specifics of the features of kprop, kint, and PID. Specifically what do they control/change and what is the outcome at the spindle?

First of all I do not own a Nova DVR, or any other lathe for that matter.

PID is a controller and it stands for Proportional, Integral, Derivative. In the case of a lathe, a PID is used (most likely) to maintain as constant as possible a set speed of the lathe. The output of, in this case, a Nova DVR's PID will change based on the change of the actual speed of piece being turned and it can change based on 3 modes: Proportional: the PID output will be proportional to the change in speed from the set value. Integral:output proportional to the amount of time of the change in speed. Derivative: output proportional to the rate of change of the speed.

I believe PID can use any combination of the 3 modes, so it could be that selecting KINT or KPROP in your settings favors that mode over the other one, or totally eliminates the non selected mode completely. I'd also venture to say that the Derivative mode is always ON, derivative is good in avoiding overshooting the set speed.

Unless you know what you are doing, the best probably is to just use whatever settings Nova has as defaults. If you do change the modes, try different speeds/loads/wood size/wood species combinations and check how the speed changes, make notes an select whatever combination works for you.
