Hi Tony,
As a woodturner who has been trying to photograph my work for a long time, I finally started to achieve photos which I consider good enough to be part of a product catalog I am evolving. The key to my recent success is

I am now able to setup or tear down a card table and photo setup in minutes with this device (used to take hours with my PVC pipe unit). The ezcube also folds flat for easy storage.
The other wonderful benefit I found on this site was daylight temperature fluorescent bulbs which fit into standard Smith Vector light stands. These bulbs provide enough light yet minimal heat - always a problem with photo bulbs and because they are fluorescent I expect to get more life from them than regular photo bulbs.
The digital desktop studio guide book (B+W) comes with a CD with full color photos and is instructive on the kinds of challenges that product photography involves.
I consider the ~$300 for the ezcube, light stands, and book a reasonable investment for my business.
