veritas sharpening system

has anybody used the system and if so what are your thoughts. i want it for turning and general sharpening of my ww tools.

I have the older one; very similiar to the current one with an extra side grinder/belt sander. For flat tools such as plane blades, chisels, etc it is great. It doesn't offer a whole lot of advantage, IMO, for curved tools; you are essentially still just free-handing it.

That being said, I have been using mine less of late, finding I have been becoming better at just using stones for quick touch-ups. It started when I was too lazy to set the angle-jig for touch-ups and start free-handing it on the sharpening system...then I just started free handing it on stones. But for getting the initial bevel square, etc. the Veritas set-up is pretty nice, albiet somewhat expensive.
