Mirka Abranet abrasives

Hi,

I've just been sent a number of samples from Mirka Abrasives here in the UK, this for an ongoing review on abrasives suitable for woodturning. Included in the sample pack were a number of Mirka's Abranet discs.

Has anyone in the US tried Abranet on wood? It states in their catalogue they do 77mm discs in a variety of grits up to 600.

Regards....Mike

Me too and me either - so I looked at their US website . The Abranet description isn't available (404 error), but I was able to read a bit about it from the Worldwide site . It sounds interesting. The UK site, under automotive uses, was selling it on its dust free, no clogging, no pilling, and longevity characteristics. I'd give it a try if I came across it (I currently use their papers and Abralon with much satisfaction.)

Chalk it up to cranium density, but I didn't get the initial impression that one needed a vac setup to get the "dustless" feature... duh! :)

sounds like an interesting product. I have been selling Mirka based disks for about 3 years now and really do like it. Started with the Bulldog gold and then went to the royal and royal plus. Real good product. Abralon is a great product, just more money than most people are willing to pay.

Abranet works GREAT on wood. It doesn't clog and can easily be blown out with a compressor nozzle. It also doesn't build up heat because of all the screen-like pores. It's amazing stuff. The only problem I've found with it is that you need a longer velcro loop than most of the pads available from Craft Supplies or Packard. Using the standard disks most of us use it will tend to fly off the pad, but works very well hand-held. It was made for use in auto body shops where they have 8" velcro pads with longer loops on the pad. It's also very effective used with an Ingersol Rand vacuum sander. It sucks about 95 percent of the dust right into the extractor.
