mounting vega duplicator on the back side of lathe

Does this sound like a reasonable thing to do? If I mount it on the back side I wont have to remove it when I am doing other things. Is this possible and if so, is it advisable? What problems could/would I run into.

Thanks in advance for the advice I will get, you guys are making this "Newbie" period a little easier.

Lathe run in reverse? If so, seems it should work.

Won't it make things tough as far as moving the regular toolrest?

Yes, it's possible all you have to do to the Vega to cut properly is turn the cutter upside down, when mounting it to the back of the lathe.

Hi Blair-- It's a very reasonable thing to do, and permits you to leave the duplicator attached as you indicate. You simply mount the cutter upside down in the duplicator so that it meets the wood properly on the back side of the lathe. We got a Vega earlier this year at work

and it works out OK.I don't think you'll have any other issues mounting this way that youwouldn't have if you mounted it on the front.Best--

Everyone I know with a Vega has their's mounted on the backside with the cutter upside-down. They can leave it attached when doing other things on the lathe. Works just as well as the regular way.
