Picnic

Martha!

Good Morning, How is the face doing?

Tell Jim he is in trouble over the sawblade!

A couple of ideas on the Picnic!

  1. We can TURN a pig on a spit!
  2. Have the members Turn a croquet Mallet and we compete as to the best mallet and then play a game
  3. We can TURN a Yard Bowl and compete as to the best bowl, then play the game!
  4. We can serve LATHE potatoe chips and apple TURNovers!

More to come!!

Hope you have a good day Your friend Lewis

My apologies Owen,I noticed I left it off and sent it in a separate e-mail, the whammy is I sent it to the right person and not to the News group!. Go figure, just like home , I get in trouble either way, no matter what I do, oh me oh my!

Thanks to one and all and ALL suggestions will be brought up before the POWER BROKERS!

Hi Lewis, Consider a turning contest: Make two identical cheap & dirty pole lathes. Provide two sets of cheap identical (HF $8 for a set of 8) turning tools and a hand operated grinder. Provide three matched pieces of freshly cut soft green wood. Provide aspirin, ice water, salt and LDD for clean up & leg cramps for the elderly. ;) Choose two closely matched teams and umpires. Make your own contest rules, but make sure there are no losers and everybody wins. Auction the pole lathes, tools and turnings. Invite me to the picnic! All best, Arch

I was following along nicely until I got to this part. I've never seen matched green wood before. Do you have to buy that from a specialty company? ;-)

DJ, nature will provide. If not, some mail order company will. :) A.

Nature will provide many *unmatched* sets, but every blank I've turned so far has been different. Not that I'm complaining ;-)

Do as they do for "logs" in lumberjack tourneys. Take a chunk of ~ 5" stuff, turn to a cylinder for all to use a piece of.

Up here I'd go get some veneer cores. Uniform enough, I should think, but the steam ruins the color.
