Absolutely. I shop specialty, having acquired most of the necessities through the years, so a lot of the hardware I'm looking for isn't available even at one of those stores. That's why I shop at Klingspor, Lee Valley, or a fresh order at 10% off at Woodworkers' Supply on bandsaw blades. Fortunately a lot of the places have the expendables I require to help pad out to the shipping limit.

LV is already mentioned- I also like Amazon and Grizzly. Perhaps unfortunately, I'm a little leery of smaller online operations, so I haven't tried much off the beaten path.

FWIW, I've found that while Amazon usually has the best online price (if they have what you want, that is,) the local Farm and Fleet is usually the same price, and often cheaper. I have to pay sales tax, but it's nice to support the community as well.

Best service has been Lee Valley when something went wrong, but Amazon has been very good as well for all sorts of things.

I used to be leery of them, but I've found a few that are reliable and helpful:

Now Harbor freight did leave something out of an order, but I got to talk with a human (very helpful), got no static, and the item was mailed that day. Im not sure Amazon even has a phone number , though they are pretty good via e-mail.

I'm not sure Amazon has a phone # either- they're either pretty good at what they do, or I'm just lucky, but I've never had a need to contact them. The only problems I've ever had via mail-order were some bent rulers from Lee Valley, which they promptly replaced and followed up on, a broken piece of cast iron on a Grizzly order (prompt replacement there as well) and a third company that took forever to mail my order and had a lot to do with my current aloofness regarding small vendors.

I've contacted Amazon twice; both times to whine. First time was about some books I was selling when I discovered they were skimming off the top of what the customer paid for shipping. After they explained it, I suggested they might be more up front about the practice. Not sure if they changed. Second time I bought a Panasonic drill on a Wednesday only to discover it $15.00 cheaper in their Friday sale. They refunded the fifteen very quickly.

Well, that's a Keeper! Where did you find it? In plain sight, I'll bet.

Not really, it was like 6 elephants giving birth, multiple emails, etc. But when you need it, it's worth it.
