Woodcut Replacable tip tools

Just a comment or two. I can only speak for the Woodcut range. We have been making the tip tools since 1990 and as most know I have been turning since 1973. Our tip tool has been so popular with the Kiwi woodturners that most now prefer that over the traditional fluted tools. Initially tip length and attachment was a concern but it was found that the Woodcut tips lasted for years and changing tips was easy. Our shapes are good and as I have pointed out below there are some benefits. Other manufacturers have since come out with versions which I believe may have discredited the concept but our replaceable tip tools continue to be the preferred Kiwi tool. (original idea came from Technatool Hi turn screw on tips)

Firstly: sharpening can easily be done with the Woodcut trugrind tool holder which can be purchased separately from the base to use with the one way base. (see Soren Berger) at AAW Orlando. Our tool holder will hold all tools from 1/8" to 1-1/2" in diameter. Second: Our special heat treatment process extends the life of the tool tips and local Kiwis only replace every 2-5 years. Third: Our tips are held onto the spigot with industrial Locktite and don't rattle loose like the other brand. As for the benefits: Solid shafts that don't vibrate, Tools that don't get shorter and become unusable, Extra weight to counteract bounce, Great shapes. I have looked over some of the shapes on the cheaper brands and they are obviously not designed by an experienced woodturner. As a footnote: Ask the Kiwi turners why they prefer tip tools over the traditional English brands.
