Anyone from rhe East Bay in CA?

Let me introduce myself. My name is Gail Mowry and I live in Antioch, CA. I ama retired HR specialist and in a younger life was a home ec teacher. I have receintly moved from Olympia, WA where I started a knitting group that meets in the evening at Barnes & Noble Bookstore. When I left there were thirty members. I am trying to start a group here at the Brentwood/Antioch Barnes & Noble and am looking for others who share the same interest. We meet on Tues evenings from 7ish till we feel like leaving. I like your group and hope I can contribute to it. I an looking for a nice lace scarf to knit. I have never done lace and wish to learn. I have some lovely alpace and also some angora to knit up. Any ideas of a good pattern to start with? Gail

Welcome - I used to work in Olympia but live in Federal Way. Hope you find some friends who are interested in a knitting group, Sounds like fun. I just finished a scarf - I gave up on the pattern I started with and went back to a simple lace stitch I had used on squares. I will take a look and see if I can find a url on the printed out instructions. I just started with a few rows of garter stitch and bordered the edges with garter stitch too to keep it from rolling. It turned out nicely.

There is a nice pattern on knitty but it isn't as easy

Hi Gail,

Gee, sorry I can't make it to your group as I live in upstate NY, but do want to say welcome to this great group and yes, do come back and tell us what you are working on.

I live around the corner in Pleasant Hill. The Contra Costa Libray has some books on traditional knitting that include patterns for lace and scarfs. I would start with those and one of the dictionaries of knitting stitches to design a scarf that fitted my yarn and skills.

Wish I could help Gail.

I am up in Santa Rosa - north of San Fran.

I am starting to think no one my age crochets or knits up here. Most likely story is I just don't know them. :-)

Lace would be fun. Let us know if you find a pattern you like.

Here is the url - I know it is for a dishcloth but used a lace weight mohair/silk, did four repeats with a three stitch garter edge using US8 needles and it looked quite good as a scarf. I don't know exactly how long I made it - I measured it against a scarf I liked instead of measuring it.

Hi Gail, Welcome! I have an easy scarf pattern, but cannot find the link to the net, so I sent a mail to you with tha pattern as an attatchment. It is written in Dutch, but it is pretty easy, so I have translated it! Els may laugh now, because she knows that I cannot speak any Dutch at all!LOL! Good luck with this, or another one!

Welcome, Gail. Good luck with your knitting group. There are loads of patterns around, but I don't have one at the top of my head now. I am sure that someone here will help you out.

Hi Gail, I cannot help you with lace or a local knitting group (I also live in upstate NY), but wanted to welcome you to this group. Come back and post often.
