Felting Help

Knitting the purse pattern in the new Knitty. I knitted the swatch then it says to wash it in hot water and record the time -- for the real thing. However, I don't know where to start on time would a normal wash cycle do the trick?

I am using Lamb's Pride.

I use Eskimo and wash my crocheted items at 60 degrees along with t-shirts, socks, etc. If I make a bag I usually "stuff it" with socks so that it will hold it's form. I forgotten this step when I washed my most recent bag and it had become a little bit distorted, nothing I couldn't fix by stretching it by hand, though.

I have a "standard" home washing machine for doing wooly stuff including fulling handknits and wovens.

I made a fulled hat with Lambs' Pride Bulky a couple of years ago. My hat required three trips through on hot wash, cold rinse using heavy agitation. YMMV.

If the FO is made in the round be sure to make your SWATCH in the round.

How do I know that I need another washing?

You wash/felt it until you like the way it looks. Or until the finished project will be the size the pattern states it should be. I prefer to not have any visible stitches after felting. In the couple of items I have felted, I went more by look than measurement. Marilyn
