I wanted to practice knitting so I could figure out why I was adding and losing stitches so I decided to take the rest of the yarn left over from the blue hat and make a scarf. It ended up only being 4" by 27". I learned a lot from it.

I believe I was adding on because I was coming underneath a stitch and then into the loop to knit instead of just going into the loop alone and there were a few times that I got a partial stitch and then knitted it next time as two. I think I may have missed the wrap a few times so that is why I lost stitches but not sure on the lost ones. Susie

Susie, try the pattern for the bias scarf. It might help you practice, partly because you have so few stitches on the needle, and partly because you have to add a stitch on one end and knit two together on the other. You start being more conscious of your stitches. At least that's what I hope!

You were very smart to try something small like that and see just where you were adding stitches. Back when I was learning it was doing mittens and that took some getting used to. Great job with the scarf and hat.
