FO: Cabled Cardigan

It's finally done! And just in time for some unseasonably chilly weather here in South Mississippi.

The pattern is from Vogue Knitting Fall 2006, #19, Margaret O'Leary's Cabled Cardigan. I used Knit Picks Wakashan 100% baby alpaca instead of the cashmere blend called for. It's really comfortable and cozy. I'm really proud of this sweater for lots of reasons, but mostly for the fact that I went back and corrected all the mistakes I made (that I've found). My only complaint about the sweater is the collar, which is folded over & sewn down, tends to roll out of the fold, as you can see in the picture. I find myself repeatedly checking it to see if it's still folded and fixing it when it's not.

I think the alpaca was a good choice in substitutions, but I don't think it holds a cable as well as a less slippery yarn might. But that's 2 complaints, and I only said I had 1.

hesira spun a FINE 'yarn':

Unseasonably cold is RIGHT! We were actually colder for Easter than we were for Christmas, by approx 10 degrees farenheit! Thanks for sharing your pix!! Hugs, Noreen PS, beauuuuuutimus!

Oh it's gorgeous! And I love the color totally. How about perhaps tacking down the collar with a loose yarn stitch from the back side?

Thanks Wendy,

I'm still debating what to do if anything about the collar. It's doubled over and sewn to the back and front seams, and I don't know if tacking the edge would prevent the roll.

Thanks Noreen!

It was freezing here 2 nights ago, and is supposed to be in the 90's (F) tomorrow I thinkg. Crazy weather!

That is an unusual design and those cables look wonderful.

Gorgeous sweater! I can only imagine how long it must have taken to knit, unless you're a knitting fiend. (smile). Is the yarn itchy at all?

Tell us, please do, is that you in the picture modelling it?

Thanks, Shelagh & Bernadette,

Yes, that's me. I have been a little bit of a fiend with the knitting. I started the cardi in early March I think. I might have actually done the back before that, but let it sit for a while. The thing that took the longest was the collar/button band. It is knit on a 47 inch circular, from bottom edge, around collar to other bottom edge, then doubled over and sewn down.

The yarn is a little itchy around my neck, but my arms and wrists aren't bothered at all. If I wear a crew neck tee, I don't feel a thing.

Very attractive model for your sweater (grin). It's always fun to see the person behind the name.
