Has anyone here

BB, do you mean your posts here? I've seen many of them, and reply.

I have wondered how others receive messages from this group. From statements I've read, it seems like there are various ways. Also, sometimes people will respond to a post, and I can't see the original anywhere.

Oh, the mysteries of the technological age!

Ok, now I'm curious. Do my posts not show up in some places? I have wondered at times if that's the case, or if there are other reasons I get little response to my posts. I've practically stopped posting because of it.

VP, this is not directed at you specifically, but your post said nobody has access to Ravelry after I posted today that I have joined, so I thought it was a good time to see if I could find out.

I am reading only and have no opinion since i have no clue how that other kinds of groups/cyber communities work. But i have a scratch of feeling about a phenimena we have here which we jokingly call the Fallafel Phenomena,,, one man opend a fallafel stand and makes money ,,, immidiately more shops around him open who sell ,,,, fallaffel .......

The amount of people interested in Crafts and Related Fiberart etc,,,, is enormous , from various reasons ......printed mags make good living , The bigger one buy out the smaller ,, and still they do quite well ,, no wonder other people think it is worth their while opening the same kind of shop at the same corner of the street ,,,,,, But we [hopefully] are still a bit free to do our own , and each person is [still] free to chose her reading groups ,,,,, mirjam Enjoy your freedom of choices as long as you can .... Before somebody limits your choices...

Melinda, and the point of it is ????? If everybody starts to use patterns only after somebody else recomends it , without trying on oneself ,,,,, and please don`t forget we all look different and it is quite hard for somebody to feel the same about any pattern like somebody whose BODY she never saw ..... Whose tastes she doesnt know ,,,,, and whose abilities to sew and craft aren`t known to you. Other people thoughts about a pattern don`t mean anything unless you are aquinted with them in any way. I have friends whom i know for years , and still i would hesitate to give a ready made shirt or something ,, than i have some close friends who liked my sewing /craft enough that i now can make something that they will like ,,,,, I have a bad feeling about that kind of thing ,,, it reminds me of the time Every body who wanted to look DIFFERENT wore Jeans !!!!! But please don`t take this personal , this is my point of view ,,,, my insight about Peer Presure , group`s opinions taking OTHER PEOPLE.....

opinions for granted ,,, without seeing if it matches me my life etc... mirjam

The problem I have with the splintering is that it shatters the community, and unless you have time to follow everything, you lose a lot when people scatter.

Ah, no I think you'll just find that's me quickly reading posts in a break at work and not really putting my brain into gear! Sorry.

I think I also misinterpreted what you said and didn't quite get that you were actually "in" and not just signed onto the list.

Indeed yes. I still very much miss Nora's group which retreated to Yahoo after that dreadful invasion we had some time ago, but, truly, after I have read alt.sewing and rctn, rcts and rcty, I really do not have time to follow any more lists, much as I wish I could.

Ummm... I have occasionally spoken my mind about the difference in prices of one store to another while in a store. Not standing up and yelling it for

*all* to hear, but also not whispering it so no one else could hear... just speaking in a normal voice to someone with me at the time that I had seen XXX at whatever other store for a couple of dollars less. If someone else happened to overhear what I said and I ended up saving them a couple of dollars, so be it.

For instance we have one grocery store in our town (we used to have two until the owner of the other one passed away), therefore they have no competition here... nor does the owner want any... in fact he went so far as to moan and complain so much about another grocery store that was trying to get it's foot in the door (so to speak) that they were turned down. People in town have very little respect for the whining owner of the one grocery store, but we have no choice if we run short of something and need it in a hurry... the nearest city to us is 30 miles away. Most of our grocery shopping is done at NoFrills in the nearby city, but I do still buy staples (milk, bread, meat) from the IGA in town, and likely always will. However... I have been in the IGA and spotted something for (estimated amount) $4.00 which I have seen at NoFrills for $2.00, and I'm not shy in pointing that out to someone who looks like they are hesitating on picking up that item. I am always thanked for telling them, and they move on to get something different for supper saying they are heading to the city the next day so they'll stop in at NoFrills. There have been rumors that NoFrills

*might* be coming to our town.... everyone is thrilled and looking forward to it. Even if they do come here, I will still continue to buy milk (they have the brand name I like best) and most of our meat (I know the butcher) from IGA.

So I see nothing wrong with pointing out a savings at a different store to others. However, that isn't what Shelagh was doing. I likely won't *join* the new site she mentioned... I don't really want to spend more time on the computer than I already do, but if there is a way of checking it out, I'll do that. Once in a while I try going to "Yarners", the yahoo group that a lot of our original people moved to from here, but Yahoo (except my email programs) gives me a lot of grief and the computer usually ends up freezing on me... but just because I go and check that group out doesn't mean I don't like rcty.

I think I've seen most, if not all of your posts. Please don't stop posting. I think sometimes people only respond to threads they are interested in. I don't respond to all the threads/posts, for that reason. ;>)

I saw your post on that. Shelagh

I'll second that! I enjoy reading your posts BB (and I still have the link to your blog that you gave me and check in there from time to time). Very often I don't reply to posts but I come here most days and read all the news.
