Welcome, Portia. There is another blind crafter who posts here sometimes. His name is David. If you know the basics of knitting, then you can do anything!

Hi Portia,

Welcome! I am very interested in knowing how you learned to knit. I have been asked to teach blind people, so I am very interested in knowing how you learned.

David knew how before he became blind.

Hi and thanks for the warm welcomes from you all.. I learned in high school and I had been blind for a while.. I learned to distinguish between the two stitch of k and p for starters to just get the idea.. When I first started knitting, the first things I learned was a scarf.. Worked n a ribbing pattern.. and then, I started just making my own afghans in a basic purl or knit pattern.. I am now doing two afghans in a pattern a friend that I used to go to the Braille Institute with.. We swap patterns back and forth from time to time and get ideas from each other.. and I also belong to a group on msn for knitting.. Plus I have a couple of friends I chat with on yahoo messenger with and get ideas and ask questions about knitting.. So every little bit helps me.. I enjoy finding and learning new techniques.. Plus crafting friends make wonderful friends for life I say.. anyway, thanks and I plan on looking around quite a bit.. Have a blessed day.. God bless Portia
