Yes i did it ,,,,,, insert a circular needle in the row you want to keep , now cut the thread 1 row beyond it pull out and unravel, now just knit /purl unto the stiches you have put on your cicular needle Noboy will ever notice ,,,, mirjam

Thanks to all - I have taken one poster's suggestion and knitted a little swatch. I'll try cutting it when I have some uninterrupted time. It logically makes sense that if I get a needle in the stitches, I can rip up to them safely!
