It's that time again

I had two county fair premium books in my mailbox today.

The earlier of the two includes handspinners, handknitters, and other "fiber people" on the judging panels so I always feel as if I get a fair shake when I watch the judging there. I have a shawl, two sweaters, two pairs of socks and a complete layette to enter this year.

Handwork categories at the later of the two farirs are judged by (dare I say it) acrylic crones. Anything made of non-acrylic yarn is instantly disqualified for the tri-color. They know dishcloths down there - oh, do they know dishcloths. Last year they had - get this -

723 dishcloth entries from more than 600 individuals. It's enough to make me think the nursing home directors get together and agree to beat all the little old ladies (and no few of the little old men) into making dishcloths all their waking hours.

Last year my entries did well at the early fair. Some of the same items bombed at the late fair.

Gas is so expensive right now that I think I'll go where I'm loved.

Wooly,

Where and when are these fairs? Not that I want to enter anything because I do good to get one or two done for our own local fair, but they might be interesting to see....

Nah, it's all those 4H clubs. They've got to have something to teach the kids how to knit. Aren't those dishcloths made out of cotton? If they're acrylic, they won't be too functional. Ahhhh, must be why they're a fair entry....

Comal County Fair is in New Braunfels on the last full weekend inSeptember, usually. The booklet doesn't have the dates on it, nowthat I look. I wonder if that's a typo or if it wasn intentional...

I thought my oversize pattern swatches were just "dust collectors" but as I read and learn from the masters, they are actually "dish rags."

In the dish rag competition do they actually test the performance of the dish rags --- perhaps on dirty pots from the BBQ competition, and see how the rag does on baked on goo, then test to see how the rag rinses clean, and dries fresh smelling???? LOL

Naw! I will stay away until they include ASTM style performance based tests.

I also want to go to Knitting Camp one of these years. One of my knitting cronies goes every year and I am endlessly envious of her...

I have been to Taos (as an instructor and a vendor) and I may be able to go to Estes Park next year riding shotgun with a friend who goes as a vendor. We shall see.

I've been to a knitting camp in Colorado the last two years. I had to miss it this year due to health issues, but I'm determined not to stay home next July.

It is so fun to be together for a few days in beautiful Colorado with a bunch of knitting enthusiasts. This year they were going to have 4 yarn exhibitors/vendors, and I'm just cryin' inside to have to have missed that!

If you can manage it Wooly, you will have a ball.

You are right. Close is a great virtue. Cool is a virtue too. (My DW hates the heat.) I do not think I will get to Black Sheep. Not cool, not close, and I did not like Miami when I lived there.

Estes Park is very cool. Hmm. . . . . Maybe. I 've had a lot of fun in that part of the country. This comes very close to being evil enablement : D
