Mirjam, I am tempted to start one myself, now I have thought about it for years, and I have to find some sutable yarn. I understand perfectly how you cast on, and how the crochetneedle will be the solution in the sedond part. AND I can see that two varigated yarns must be nice together!!!

BUT: Will you please explain more HOW, and WHY you use a double pointed needle. When you knit with yarn nr. 2, don't you knit a whole new round? OR: Do you knit a "strip of yarn over 20-30 sts." and then go back, knitting overa gain with yarn 1? It sounds like you then will get a nice, blended result, and some "ends" (which I am not so afraid of, I have done much more incredible weaving earlier!LOL!) I will go to town, trying to find some nice yarn! Hugs, AUD :-)

I really recommend making one , not only because it is a great carry around work , but also since it is an experience, and It is the Best shawl i have . maybe making a Crocheted one first will make it easier for you.

it really occured to me years ago when i knited some multy colored Sweater, that when having such long lines, it helps sometimes to use a short needle [=dp] knit a group of stitches , let say 25 , than take the circular and knit from the dp let`s say 20 stiches with second color than , again pick up dp , knit with color 1 ,,,further in the round , , when dp is full you knit with circular colr 2 ,but always leave some stiches on dp, so you don`t mix the colors [ unless you want to,see down] THIS way you really progres with 2 rows almost together ,,, Of course it is also an option , [ not so relevant for moebiouses , but for other knitting in the round , to change colors mid round ,,, [ that is how i came to the idea, because changing colors when you want a form /spot , in an all round knitting was complicated It enabled me a kind of sectional color knitting in the round . But now we deal with the moebious , and this just helps me to progress with 2 rows quite quickly sort of one on top of the other .... the circ is always several stitches behind !!!! circularYYYYYYYYYYY dp XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX pattern in moebious YYYYYYYYY XXXXXXXXXXX

This sounds more like i did in the Multy colored sweater ,,, i had no idea how to blend a group of handspuns , which i got to TEST KNIT , they were uneven in weight , in thickness , i kniited a round [ with short rows ] yoke than cast on stitches , dint like the normal stripes , decided to make Dots and spots, thus i used a circular to hold all stiches at places i indeed knitted 10-20 st. with adifferent color, when i decided it was enough i started color number 3 ,for one stitch , turned knit colr 2 back over those 10-20 picked up 1 st with color 1 and sometines knitted several stitches with it , turned and knited with 2 over 10-20 than picjed 3 and went on knitting ,,, It can be done ,,,, eventually you get the hang it and you progress in groups , more like in weaving than in normal knitting ,,, the result of all this works is my work " Shfaram Landscape - a Residential Neighbourhood" in my Mapresions Loci exhibition ,,,, i learned that one can do a lot of things with knitting ,,, TRY ,,,,,,,,,YOU CAN do it BEST of JOY mirjam

Ok Aud here i am fresh from night`s sleep ., In a moebious after you cast on 150 cm worth of stiches [ remember GUAGUE IT !!!] you lay the strip on a table and Normally if you would have knitted a round sweater you would have knitted over first stiche ,,,but you WANT the LOOP , thus you cast on =knit a stich on the bottom of first stich , TAKE CARE TO TYRN IT ONLY ONCE . now you just go along casting on =knitting stitiches on the bottom of former cast on stiches. [ i hope that you didn`t forget a marker before casting on the underside ,, when you come again to knit the first stichc you cast on you will note that you will be OPPOSITE the marker , now knit [and purl ] remember you have to have Knits and Purls on both working sides , because moebious has only one side ,, [ just now i am kniting litle 4 x 4 squares ,, veryneat] Now it is adviced to go on knitting till you get wanted width , your little BUNDLE wil grow outwards,,, and you can just k/p as much as you like ,,,and if you wanted to change colors you CAN start it a certain point , knit a whole round and pick up your former thread and go a whole round ,,,, But i thought i could just make it faster or look faster to me , instead of doing 1 whole round , i take up the DP and knit a full needle with color 2, pick up the circular without having to move my hand too much and knit most of those stiches from dp onto to circular with color one ,,,,i leave some stiches of color 2 on dp , not to get mixed up and not to pull stiches too much ,, fill the dp with col 2 , pick circular and k off dp onto circular ,, in fact you work with circular and Dp at same time mirjam

Dear Mirjam! Today *I* have been off! But yesterday I tried out your explanation, and found that I was the one who had to read better!

After I casted on, I understood completely!

Well, I just made a test from a yarn I HAD, but today I have got better material to work with! You see, I have been in our neighbour town today (At the hospital to contoll my ears and hearing aid, which went very well! After correction I hear like a young girl again!LOL!) I went, as usual to a yarn shop, tried to find two varigated yarns that would go well together. But NO!

BUT: there was a sale! First I found (just) one ball of some "fantasy- yarn" ; I don't know a better description. Sort of varigated ladder yarn, some grey, black and pink- varigated.Sounds strange, but it was nice! Then I got some similar in black. But this was not enough so I got some "normal wool" (which will be good to put between) in black and one dark grey.

So, now the experiment starts! I have planned to try to knit, not only two rows at a time, but tree!!! I keep in mind that there always must be some sts left when changing to next yarn/row, Do you think I will manage? I'll try tomorrow! Thank you for inspiration and help!! Hugs, Aud ;-)

Dear Aud , Congrats on hearing better,,,, this way we both will hear your Laughter when it works out well ,,, \i love the idea of trying 3 colors , than you have to use 2 DPs ,,,, knit color 2 from left circular to dp 1, knit color 3 from dp 1 to dp

2 , and knit color 1 from dp 2 to circular right side ,,, [Smile ,,,, i have done it, you see :>:>:>] Yes it can be done And LAST not LEAST it is Wonderful to Think and try new ways !!!!![ in the worst case we `just` unravel a bit ,,,,,[touch wood].

LOVELY color combination the more the better ,,,

I have learned long ago that having varigated colors and Adding 1-2 of the colors in monochromatic threads , can never fail , it Always pleases me and other , it enhnaces the beauty of combining colors !!!!

Hi Mirjam! Wonderful weather here, sunshine -2*C, snow. I have had a long walk today! After that, I started "the experiment", which so far goes very well. I stead of dp-needles, I use 60 cm round needles ( I had no dpn's in the right seize, and I couldn't wait to get any ;) But the round needles works well, I think!

I have "made", (well that is NOT true, I think we all have knitted it) a double sided pattern with some rows eyelets in it, which is a little more fluffy and lacy than the "square pattern". These yarns "want" to make a looser and more open result :)

SO far I have done 10 (whole) rounds/20 rows , and it's possible to see how it will look like. I have other things to be done in the house too.... but it is so difficult to put the knitting away as long as you are eager to see the result! LOL! Thank you for the help! AUD ;-)

One wonderful aspect of knitting Moebiouses i forgot to tell you ,,, was that you can so easily pick it up while Downloading something on your computer , or while answering long phone calls ,,, You are right that some Flimsy loose Lacey stitches are a benefit as well , but this one i am knitting now is meant for my son ,,,,, Today Wensday , we woke to a Freezing day, not one dove sits high on the Anthena next door, They are all sitting low on the roof``s edge [ = windy outside]. Yesterday we had so much rain that Noach would have felt at home. I tried on my New Turkiz sweater and went to buy something , [and show it off in the shop :>:>:] it really is nice, and warm . The thread is rather delicate, but not really even , but you wouldn`t call it uneven , but here and there it seems a tiny/ miny more lumpier, more in the feeling than in the look . Last year i found a bit more , am thinking combing some of those for a vest ,, but not now , work has piled on me ,, I need to finnish somethings , mirjam
