Irish Fisherman

Please help,

I am looking for a crochet pattern for an Irish Fisherman sweater. All I can find on the web are knit patterns. Does anyone know where I can find one that is crocheted?

Here you are Christy and it is a free pattern. I made this several years ago for my husband and it is quite easy to work and he said it was very comfortable to wear. (It wore out long ago!)

I have a crochet cable pattern, if that's what you mean. The principle would apply to any type of cable.

Hi Christy! The one Bernadette gave you, is beautiful1 But I don't know if it is for a man or a woman, here is a cabeled sweater for women, not exactly the most trad. Irish I have seen, but:

Bernadette,

Thank you for the link. This is a nice pattern. I may have to try it.

Aud,

The cabled sweater for a woman is very pretty. I'll have to try this one for myself, and the one Bernadette suggested for my husband. :)

Mary,

That would be very helpful. Thank you. I have a terrible problem of wanting to try new patterns and things, even if I don't know how to do it. I just jump in without thinking. And my latest "obsession" is wanting to make a cabled sweater. Since I don't knit, I have trouble finding crocheted cable patterns. This would be my first clothing project, and I know I should probably start with something more simple, but I am inspired. :) I would love to be able to crochet something like this:

(thought this is a knitted pattern). Christy (sorry for babbling)

No I think Bernadette's would be Ok for a woman, but "my" link may be a little too girly in the shape for a man. But if you change the "shape", I'm sure it would be a nice sweater for a man, the pattern is OK ;-)

I would start by crocheting a scarf with a cable up the middle, using the Irish cable crochet technique mentioned in an earlier post. See if you like the effect, before deciding on a sweater.

I've never seen a cabled crochet or knitted jumper which was shaped for a man or a woman.

Thank you Dennis.

The new year is coming up and I am feeling rather ambitious. :) I think This type of sweater is really pretty, and I look forward to starting one...though I may regret it once I start. *chuckle*
