Just A Quick Question Regarding....

....the Sewing and Needlework Festival that is coming to Toronto next week. I have never attended and wondered if anyone in the area had previously. I'm trying to make a decision on whether it would be a worthwhile trek to Toronto for it. I understand there are hands on seminars and items to purchase also, is this correct?

I've never attended but have seen the ads many times. The Web site at

formatting link
states they do have hand-on sessions and"extraordinary shopping".

Hi

you are asking about the Spring show and honestly if you are going to spend the time I would come to the fall Creative Sewing and Needlework Show. The spring show has about 1/3 the vendors but does offer the free seminars.

The fall show has a few hands on sessions and others that you have to pay for.

I have gone to both the fall and spring shows since they started and this year I'm not going to the spring show as I found I didn't get my money's worth as the hands on are great for beginners not someone that has experience in the various crafts.

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions.

I remember meeting Darlene at this show a few years ago... 3?? or 4??? my memory is bad... Darlene do you remember? I think it was the fall show. My sister & I went, and I had a great time looking at the yarns. I did buy some yarn; but also found at that time that it was more geared to quilting. There were tons of booths for quilters and much less so for yarn fibre artists. That may have changed in the last couple of years.

Shelagh I recently went to the one in Victoria, although much smaller than the one in Toronto (I have been to the Toronto one as well.) I have also found, the last years, that these shows are predominantly for the quilters. There is less and less yarns for either knitters or weavers for sale. Visit their website and you may be able to find out what is going on.

Hi

It was the fall show that we met at. I have actually met a few people from this group at the fall shows over the years. Quilting is big at both the spring and fall shows and also scrapbooking.

Els

I totally agree with you about less and less places for knitters and crocheters. I actually did take two knitting classes last fall at the show and totally enjoyed them. I took long-cabin knitting and quick knit baby sweaters.

I wish there was more knitting/crocheting and even cross-stitch stores that went. Darlene in Toronto

Here the knitting Rennaissance , that swept USA , just started this year , all woolshops that stayed alive are Overwhelmed by the number of people , who Suddenly had the Urge To KNIT again after X years. My friend the thread shop owner would laugh whenn i told her knitting is back , now the shop is never empty enough for us to have a coffee together quitely ,,,, and people are asking about knitting classes , but this hasn`t started as yet , so i give some private volunteer lessons here and there ... mirjam

Hi Darlene:

After reading the posts here and asking a few of the ladies in a knitting group I belong to, I think I'll pass on the Spring session. The ladies that had attended said pretty much what you had. I am in desperate need of some spring clothes so will spend that day shopping .

Hi there:

Thanks Els, but, not even sure I'm going to go out and shop now. There is a possibility that I'm pregnant again, my test results came back with a very weak positive a month ago. It's been a bit of a waiting game but I should find out for sure this Tuesday. Time will tell!
