knit for 2006?

LOL me too with six of my own and 18 g/children and many others inbetween, used to do the 'kite' shape pattern to fold, today they just use disposables dont they?

You would be surprised - there are people out there who are as obsessive about cloth diapers as we all are about yarn! And there are the ones who knit their own soakers - best of both worlds :)

Try this, Ophelia, this is a small picture, but not the pattern (you need adobe reader to open the pattern)

;-)

The soakers were put over the nappy to soak up anything that came through the nappy cloth. Babies were more or less expected to be "damp" most of the time... but air gets through the fiber, which is healthier for the skin. Also, it's very easy to tell when a change is required.

I remember mu mum made soakers for my little brother. That was before plastic! The reasom why yu used them: They are made from wool, and will keep a wet baby warm! Aud ;-)

I would be very careful working with any metal , esp Brass , not treated for close hand handling .... little particles coming of, seating on it while working might pull some mini particles into your pores ,,, Better ask around Experts , you might end up having an Allergy or minor poisening ... Sorry to spoil your happy mood, have had my own health problems from unusual use of materials, mirjam

Knitted pants then?? But doesn't this get wet as well? I'm having difficulty with this concept..

I've d>>> Very clear Ophelia,,,,

I sent out some tube knitted scarves bit like cowls they said that these keep their necks warm whilst having no dangly ends to worry ahout.

the plus sid of these are that they can pull up the front over their noses and faces if they get into a lot of sand dust storms.. Mittens with and without fingers gloves socks scarves also send out pen papers and pencils they keep losing them, when they have to suddenly move things get lost especially little thngs.. They love the odd crossword or puzzle books too...add a pen or pencil with this. No aerospray cans though, as these can explode. Plastic bottles or sachets or shampoo body wash. Oh and face clothes make a pouch in the side of it and add a bar of soap then they can use it like a soap mitt..

The other reason is obvious from the name. Without plastic, and with an ordinary thickness of diaper, a baby could produce a significant puddle even with a diaper on. The soaker was literally to soak up as much as possible. Wool can hold more liquid than cotton without seeming as wet.
