I agree. It is such a chiche, but I am not sure we can change those attitudes. I would like to see him design and knit a garment and wear it! We are not only intellectual but capable as well!

Just as studies have shown (USA) that men docs just do not pay as much attention to the symptoms of women as they do to men with the same complaints. It is a darn shame.

The *intellectual things* I've seen most men doing to relax would be drinking beer and watching sports on t.v.! We all know that knitting involves a lot of math and calculations, obviously that doctor doesn't knit. Sounds like a derogatory assumption to me. Marie and the cats

From what Medieval stasis pod did he get out? I bet Torquemada had precisely the same ideas. :-)

That doctor is lost in his stereotypes. My DH works most of the time as an editor of a monthly scientific journal - fortunately he can work anywhere by computer. He does NOT rest by doing other intellectual pursuits. He actually "rests" by doing physical things - like taking long walks or doing light yard work - though sprawling on the couch to watch sports on tv is sometimes in the mix as well. I rest by doing crossword puzzles, reading or knitting - all of which are more intellectual than my current work now that I am retired (cleaning, ironing, most of the yard work etc). I suppose that if my DH earned his living by doing more physical labor, his rest pattern might look more like mine - and before I retired my rest pattern was more like his as my work required much reading and was intellectually demanding. (Before I retired we hired out much of my present work) I suspect - though have no imperical evidence - that we seek a balance of brain work and muscle work in our lives.

I've always thought that knitting was good for me - as well as reading, crosswords etc. during my leisure time. Maybe men can't watch TV and do these things at the same time - most women can and do..:-)

Many evenings end with me knitting and watching TV - DH usually sleeps and "watches" the news while on the couch beside me. That is his form of double tasking :)
