New Pics

Hey Guys,

I uploaded photos of new socks and old sweaters today. The sweaters are a bunch of "1sts", and even though I can now see all the problems, I still love them. All were made with love for my boys, and were worn by both of them ( a lot! ).

The socks are already felting. Next time I'll use a wool/acrylic blend.

Hesira! Your work is GORGEOUS ... and so are your boys! :) I disagree that the one sweater's goofy -- I think it's lovely. I am stunned that the red and white sweater was one of your first -- I can only hope to get that good! LOL D'ya have the pattern for that anywhere around still? (hint, hint) Also really love the yoke sweater

-- so beautiful!

Thanks for sharing! Smiles to you, Eve

Thanks Eve,

The red & white one was for my 1st son when he was 1 or so. I had to frog it so many times I lost count. I made another right after it for my nefew who is 10 days younger than 1stS, with white and red reversed. It turned out much better, but I have no digital photos of it. The pattern was from a Family Circle Easy Knitting (which most of these are). The Issue was Winter 00/01.

I am really pround of the yoke sweater. It looks simple, but it was harder than any of the others. I just mailed it out to Giles who was born a week ago Friday.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Your sweaters look great--and so do the socks! If there are flaws, only you know where they are, and no one cares. What's next?

Hi Hesira,

Wow, for knitting the first time those sweaters are beautiful, I don't think I would have attempted the red/white to begin with, congratulations on doing that. At least it didn't scare you off from knitting other things. The socks are very nice too and the boys are adorable models.

Hugs,

Nora

Wow! Color me impressed! What an inspiration you are! I haven't been brave enough to tackle a sweater yet but maybe now I will!

Pamjam,

Thanks for the kind words. I learned to knit purely to make baby sweaters when I was pregnant, and didn't know in advance what was going to be hard or easy. But, don't be afraid of making a sweater. Try a child's or baby one first to get the jist of the construction. Usually there are only 4 pieces to sew together.

Wow, great work! I generally don't take pictures of the things I make, but maybe I should since I end up making a lot of things as gifts; would be a reminder of what worked and what didn't.

The yoke neck sweater and the red & white sweater are spectacular.... I'm going to look in my FCEK mags to see if I have that pattern for the red&white one.

Keep taking pics of your projects - you'll be glad you did!

If you use superwash wool/nylon blend - it works just as well, especially if you want to use a finer weight. I throw my socks in the washer & dryer and don't worry about them. ;>)

Thanks Shillelagh, and everyone.

The red one is in the winter 00/01, or holiday 00/01. The cover has a brunette model in a red & white fair isle sweater. That issue has a lot of fair isle stuff.

As for the superwash wool/nylon, do you have a brand recommendation?

I have bought a LOT of sock yarn from Elann.com. They are a discount internet yarn company and I can recommend them. Here are links to 2 of their sock yarns, at a really good price. For adult women you would likely need 2 balls for each pair of socks. They price their yarns in either U.S. or Canadian dollars. I've sent you links to the U.S. pricing. Let me know if you get some (grin)

Wow, Shillelagh! This yarn is gorgeous. I'm still giggling over Eimear's horror at being tempted; but I wasn't as smart as she to run away 'fore it was too late!!!!!!!

Are the prices always this good or is there a sale right now? Eve :o)

Their prices are always good. They get in ends of lines, discontinued stuff - like that. They usually sell at 50% or more off the regular retail price. I always check their site EVERY day, because you never know what they'll have available. They also have some lines put up in their own brand. Their "Highland Wool" is a great everyday wool yarn for whatever. Recently I bought a cashmere blend to make up a couple of scarves.

So, what did you buy? Inquiring minds need to know (laugh).
