Old Phentex "1970"s style

Looking for Black, Red, and a medium shade of green in OLD TYPE PHENTEX.....= Three Ply = that can be taken apart into 3 distinct strands. This yarn was used in the 1970's to knit slippers. The same yarn today in the stores can not be taken apart easily in 3 strands. If you can help..I would appreciate hearing from you.

That's the "spongie" feeling kind of stuff, right? You know I don't ever remember seeing it in black before. Odd, huh? Good luck... hopefully someone still has some.

You can still buy it. Even in black.

Thanks for trying to help.. The phentex I am looking for ...they stopped making it in three strands back in the early 80's The yarn today is stringy hard to part. My husband uses Black, Red and med.Green for tying fishing flies and only people who have it is someone who has old yarn in their closet or attic from years gone by. We used to knit slippers with this when it first went on the market. I have written to the company and they told me the machinery is all new and different now that they make it with. Thanks anyhow

Hi Katherine, NBJess

Funny, I got some at Walmart too; in December. It's called 'Cambridge Fibres Ltd. Slipper Yarn'' and it's definitely separating into three strands cleanly; mine is in three colours so it's quite clear that it's easily separable. I paid all of $1.50 for two 85 gram balls in a package. The address is 215 Queen St. W., Cambridge, ON, N3C 1G6 if that helps.

Hah!! 100% polypropylene. Should be perfect for the child's backpack I bought it to make.

If Katherine and I can get it in Newfoundland, you can probably find it in New Brunswick. It doesn't appear to be old stock, either.

I got some in Nova Scotia last summer, too.

Well, it's around, anyway. And it should've been Newfoundland AND LABRADOR...sorry Katherine!

Jess, if you're reading, if you can't find any at a Walmart near you, I can ask my sister to check in Nova Scotia. There's none left here in the colours you specified (black, red, medium green, right?). Contact me off-list if you want me to act on this, please. easternstorm @ gmail . com (remove spaces)

LOL Not to worry, sweetie. I think that the longer name is ridiculous anyhow.

No I didnt find the yarn yet...It hasnt been sold in stores for 20 years..I wrote to Phentex plant years ago and they told me they changed the machinery to make this yarn. only place I will be able to find it is in someone's attic. The new yarn is stringy like a cobweb when you pull it apart.. The old yarn used to split in 3 distinct strands, and not stringy. It has to be taken apart cleanly to use for Fly Hooks for Fishing. Wish I could post a picture here ...it shows the difference.

Thats Great Katherine.. I will go to Walmart this week and see if they have it. I bought Slipper and Craft Yarn couple months ago and its sure not the thing. When I wrote to Phentex a few years ago they sent me all the sample cards for all their products and none were what I wanted.. They may have changed back to the older type machinery to make this.. Thats Great.. It will end my search of 15 years.. I get little bits now and then from neighbours and older people in the city. Thank you.

I was at one of the Walmarts tonight, all they had was Phentex. The stuff I've got that IS 3-ply is just labeld Cambridge Fibres. It has three strands; cream, olive, hunter green. You're welcome to any leftovers I have after I make a little backpack (will be in March/early April).

Thank you very much Michelle..But I need Black, Red and a medium to light green. My husband ties Salmon flies for fishing and that is the color of the body of the fly. I appreciate your help.
