----------------------------- Haifa is built on a mountain that protrudes into the sea, thus it makes a bay , north of the mountain , the bay has at one end Akko =Acre one of the oldest cities in the world, and Haifa at the other end, Haifa sits on this point that is really the West/north part of the mount Carmel which is a big moutain. In Haifa it raises to about
257 metters, and various neighbourhoods are separated by wadies, mounds etc... When one comes from the North at night , one sees jewels of lights spilling down the mountain, either the houses whose lights are white to yellow, or streets whose lights are [ due to cars] yellow to orange/red. While Big buildings , Hotels the University, the refineries the Bahaaian Temple lights give a `lighted` contour, or a full form of their shapes. The Light House, at the edge of the mountian called "Stella Maris" sends out his signal over the dark night, in the dark dark bay water some boats have their string of lights. The background material is Very heavy dark silk, the lights were embroidered mostly by hand , a bit by machine, in colors rangingmostly from white + Yellow , to some orange and a few red spots. Houses embroidered with perle threads, streets with sewing threads , in many tiny stiches. The overall efect is like an elonagted Photograph. ++++++++ Army Sock ________________ after my son`s army service i had 40 sock pairs i couldn`t repair anymor,thus i cut them up into all their various parts and sewed them into a giant army sock, about 2.10 cm high , 70 cam long from tow to heel. the heels part was gone thus i knitted a part that looks like a Sheep head, the various `blocks are like a calendar to the service, as a well as a reminder to Generals , maybe if they had to wash all those socks , there would be less fights. inside the foot is a net that makes it lay straight-------------------------- Eyes Unseeing
--------------- Living on a mountain i am used to see fields as a chess board. in the background a Sun goes down and leaves the sky with Petroleum and lilac coulours , which are considered more `oriental. the fields under it sort of look like a stair case With a various squares , brown with white flowers , green , yellow squared [flannel] . little white sheep [ as big as your biggest finger nail are spresd here and there . in one field a man is plowing with a horse, in one field a human is planting, in the middle 2 women , in long dresses, one with white blue , one with green red [embroidered with sewing threads] , are talking ,
2 cows and a goat also are on the fields,,,,, From the sky a sort od `rain` of Big closed eyes wre falling , they are made [ and appliqued] from Kaki cloth , , thay are fallong unseeing over the pastoral fields. The sides of the work are uneven they are cut in a wavy rolling line. ============= mirjam
