Funny that you posted this here - I just read about it, and it's the first that I had heard of it! Had I known I would have gone to the post office last week to mail the package that has been sitting in my car since Christmas. Now I"ll wait another week to avoid all those 2 cent stamp buyers!

I heard on Friday about the increase. I usually mail stuff out on Fridays, so when I was at the PO I asked the clerk. He said USPS intentionally didn't broadcast the information much - the last he remembers seeing anything in the news was back in October.

Had I known rates were going up I would have scoured out all that wool in December and gotten it out right after Christmas. As it is I'm probably looking at an extra $10 in shipping, each way. That'll eat a good portion of the savings I was hoping to realize by scouring the wool myself :P

Reply to the list as I do not publish an email address to USENET. This practice has cut my spam by more than 95%. Of course, I did have to abandon a perfectly good email account...

In Canada, it's 50 cents. So you still have a bargain. ;>)

Stella, I was reminded by a sign in the Post Office on Wednesday. Of course, when I bought a book of stamps out of the machine, they were 37¢ ones. Went back on Thursday and bought twenty 2¢ ones for this week. Wonder when they'll put the right ones in the machines: that's something to watch out for.

One of the clerks mentioned that once the change is in effect, they will have to use up the old stamps when they can by putting them on packages, etc., that are weighed at the P.O.

Back to the "Pony Express".... "dog sled" in the Great White North (during winter months anyway)... and "Tuna Express" for overseas packages! LOL Gotta be cheaper than the Post Office. ;o)

Didn't ours go up too? Either that or it's *going* to... the Post Mistress in town told me that before Christmas, but I was in too big a hurry to hear

*when*.

LOL So, you're living in the future too!

I was on the phone with someone we owe some money to on Friday and asked him when the next payment is due. He said "March 3rd"..... I said "Excuse me? MARCH 3rd? February is a very short month this year, hmmm?" He said "Oh man.... did I say MARCH? I'm sorry, my mistake... that should be FEBRUARY

3rd." hehehe We had a laugh about it anyway.

Ah, but surely some of that 39 cents has to be for storage. :)

Hi Gem, in answer to your question, Domestic Lettermail Price Change The basic domestic letter price (0 - 30g) increased by one cent, from $0.50 to $0.51 on January 16, 2006, based on the Price Cap Formula.

Hi Norma

Gee I hadn't heard anything about postage going up this month. I thought it was going to stay at $0.50 for a while.

Thanks for letting me know. Darlene in Toronto

It is going up one cent in Canada, but that is nothing new here. Every January, Canada post hikes up their fees. They certainly are no longer a non profit making government body. To bad we can't buy chairs from the post office....LOL

well that I can understand, but I thought these dates on parcels are done by computor so if they are it must mean that everyone who sent that day, and there were quite a queue of us, must all have sent mail in the future...lol
