postage going up

I'm amazed at all the people who were surprised by this increase. . . The first 'general' announcement was in late August, then, all of October it was all over the news, newspapers, radio AND posters at the PO.... heck, even our public Library had posters about it.... JM2C, Noreen

It drives me crazy, now we have to go and buy one cent stamps again, to compensate for this hike. I think it will go up in the middle of the month Darlene.

Maybe in the States they made a big todo about it in the papers etc, but the shy secretive Canadians tell you, one day after it all have changed, LOL There is a small notice in our post office, and the kind girls who work there, ask you if you are sure you want to buy so many stamps, just before the change over....that is how I knew about it.

I didn't know it until I read it here, and I have several books of 49 cent stamps.

They got round that one here (UK) a few years back. We still have first and second class postage and the relevant stamps are now orange for first and blue for second and just say 1st or 2nd not an actual value. That way it doesn't matter when you buy them they are still valid - I think they decided it worked out cheaper than issuing the 1 or 2 pence stamps.

I knew a few weeks before Christmas. I went in to buy postage for a card to my cousin in England and the Post Mistress told me then that it would be going up in January. Besides... I've gotten used to the one cent price hike every (or almost every) January, so it's really no surprise... not that I enjoy paying more postage, but whatcha gonna do? *shrug*
