re: granny hexagon help please

Kristen,

It just occurred to me, something that you'd written, that you don't ch1 between dc3 clusters on the straight edges in a granny square. That's probably why I'm having trouble in my granny hexagons, I'll try deleting the ch1 between dc2 clusters on the straight edges.

Cheers,

David

Maybe that is the problem! Like I said, I'm pretty much self taught and have had absolutely no outside influences on my methods (I have one aunt who crochets and I can't even hold the hook like she does--she's a pencil-gripper and I'm a knife-gripper). I like that no ch1 betweeen the ones on the sides gives a more filled-in look--the holes are maybe a little smaller. Not by a lot or anything, but I like how my granny squares turn out. I made an afghan for a friend this past Christmas completely made out of scrap yarn granny squares. It had more than 40 colors in it and I completely want to make myself one if I ever have the time because it was so beautiful, yet so simple. I literally made it in three days and it was huge.

that's funny Kristen, when I was sighted, I held the crochet hook like a pencil too. After almost twenty years of being blind, I took up crocheting again and had to re-learn what I'd forgotten in that time. And now I hold the crochet hook like a kitchen knife too! I used to get painful callouses, now that's quite a thing of the past.

Mirjam,

How do you crochet your hexagons? And what do you mean by crocheting from inside out and vice versa?

I'm also a knife-gripper, crocheter! I find it uncomfortable to hold a hook like a pencil. Whatever works! :o)
