Re: Saturday doings

This obviously came in whilst I was sleeping...LOL I've never tried paper making with anything other than silk tops Els, this sounds ingenious although I know string and allsorts will make paper, but it also sounds alot of work...I look forward to seeing some images when and as you do it...wow..lol

You made paper with silk tops Cher, How about using silk hankies, or Bells....??? How do you use the silk.....do you cut it into little piece, boil it up and then put it in the blender...?? Tell me more please

I ripped up an old 100 % linen table cloth. It was so old that it was falling apart in my hands. Otto helped me cutting it into miniscule tiny pieces. We put these in my kitchen machine (Poor kitchen machine) and we now have a pulp, I boiled with soda. I would think it ready for use on Tuesday, however I wonder if it needs some binding agent....like starch maybe.....Anyone, knows about making paper from rags. I have done it from old paper, never from old materials.

Never used the bells or hankies Els, although I have for spinning, actually if I remember rightly it was a silk 'brick' I'd bought from somewhere, like tops but wider, we just did it as for fleece, pulling bits out and laying onto bubble wrap etc rubbing and bashing it til it felted. then pulling it and making paper clipping off the extras .. we made some cards as I remember.. about five years back now, I shall have to look out my notes on it and send you more detailed info on it...as I may of course be totally wrong. The bells I find awfully sticky, but boiling them for the dye often returns them with papery bits in them.. lol

That is a new one to me Cher, I have dry felted with little bits of silk. Must try that tomorrow, I would love to use that for Christmas cards. Another item on the list to add to all the others waiting in the wings to be done......LOL

Hi Els, no we wetted it and I believe in the same way as you do over a former, but without one, if you know what I mean... Gosh what it is to not remember, shows how interested I was at the time...but back then I was learning to weave and that was more important to me...lol higz cher
