I would love to get rid of the carpet in the living room and bedroom, and eventually I will. Both DH & I have many allergies, and AFAIC - carpets are just dust and dirt catchers - especially wall to wall. At least with an area rug you can take it outside and beat it, or easily get rid of it. (cough, choke, hack)

Shaelagh , 3 of the carpets are old , 1 we got when married , from My Husband Grandparents, 2 are like a 100 + years old. They are a bit worn but do their jobs, They are easy to shake , vacum and every several years go to the cleaners , I also clean them with Viniger. In other parts of the house i have rag rugs , Home mades by me and Bought ones , THIS ARE GREAT ,, you can shake them , use both sides , AND WASH IN YOUR WASHING MACHINE !!!!!!

Hi Shelagh! Dirt is very easy to see on hardwood floors. I never realized how dirty floors could get before I moved to a hardwood house. Your right, carpets hide alot of the dirt and dust and you can never get it totally cleaned up. I love my area rugs because, as you mentioned, you can dust them outside. Or wash them if you have too. I've had to wash a few of mine because my son peed on them when we were potty training him. But we have 3 huge area rugs for the bedroom, living room, and dining room. They're too big to wash but they were $19.99 Walmart specials so we can replace them if they get too yucky. They look just as nice as the $100 rugs that I can't afford! Pamjam

Hi Pamjam,

I love my hardwood floors through the house. We had wall to wall at our first home and never again. That's another reason I love my swiffer, so easy to use. I do have scatter rugs though and from Kmarts, but Walmarts are just as good.

Hugs,

Nora
