It is a tradition in my family to always have rutabega with turkey at Thanksgiving. It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it! We just boil it and mash with butter-Yum. I found a recipe for chicken soup with rutabega and it was delicious. Gave it a little different taste that went well with the chicken.
One year I was checking out at the grocery store when the clerk asked what the rutabega was and how it was eaten. The woman behind me began to laugh. She explained that her husband was eastern european and rutabega was fed to the livestock and would be very insulted if she tried to serve it to him!
