Canning soup...

I canned soup for the first time and what a mess, must have filled the jars too full? Any suggestions? Carol In WI

As I remember from my Home Economics days many years ago, you should leave a

1/2 of space at the top of the jar when canning fruits and vegetables. However, I never tried to can soup.

I have only bottled soup, in Mason jars, and I leave about half an inch head space. That seems to work.
