Canning soup...

I canned soup for the first time and what a mess, I must have had the jars filled to far for they burst the lid. Any suggestions? Carol In WI

I made a vegie and a wild rice and the seal was broken, I figured that maybe I filled the jar too full, I did it like jelly. Carol In WI

I believe you should have allowed more headspace, as your soup ingredients would be considered low acid. Low acid contents normally require 1 inch of headspace, as opposed to high acid foods such as jams and jellies which require only 1/4 to 1/2 inch of headspace.
