I knew someone was going to mention the Boston accent! DH and I get a kick out of listening to radio broadcasts of Red Sox games. One of the announcers does the 'er' thing. So the manager (Terry Francona) becomes "Franconer" and the shortstop (Edgar Renteria) becomes "Renterier." The amazing thing is that I actually almost never hear the Boston accent when out and about. I have tons of friends who grew up in MA (including DH) and none of them have it either. I haven't managed to figure out who gets stuck with it and who manages to avoid it.
The Maine accent is another fun one. "Barb" becomes "Bob" and "Bob" becomes something else entirely (can't remember what it is now).
