Great Yarn Day

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday was a great yarn day. I went to AC Moore to look at the Red Heart Supersaver that was on sale for $1.57 a skein. I never made it to the back wall where it's located. I spotted the bin where they had the Caron mill ends last week and this week there were bags of Coats and Clark containing 24oz of yarn for $5. The yarn is made in Turkey and looks and feels so yummy. Yes, I bought some, one bag of light blue, one of light pink and one wine. The only varigated they had was 18oz and called Old Time Country and made in the US. So that made 90 oz of yarn for $18 as I also used my 40% off coupon. My DH said I shouldn't need yarn for at least a month or two. LOL

Hugs,

Nora

WOW!!! Great sale! So did you ever get back to the Red Heart you went in for before you left? :)

Nora,

I purchase 41 pounds of yarn one time. It was the same yarn you purchased from a store going out of busiiness. I payed 1 dollar skien.

I have only 3 skiens left for that stash. I only took me 2 years to use it.

Hugs & God bless, Dennis & Gail

Good for you on the good yarn deal.

Knowing you it won't take you long to get through that yarn.

If you were offered 25# of any yarn of your choice for free, but you had to knit / crochet that yarn up before touching any other yarn, what would that one yarn of choice be?

If the knitting goddess is listening, I would be happy with any of the Shetland wools, or even a Canadian Shetland wool such as Springfield Farm.

Same here. Definitely silk. Preferably hand-dyed in deep reds or greens. Don't know what I'd do with it, though; perhaps a nice, drapey garment of some sort.

Something fine, so that I could do a lightweight sweater for me.

Have you (or anyone reading this) knitted anything with silk yarn? I recently read a new book called Luxury Yarns and was left with an impression that it is not easy to work with.

I am knitting a silk shawl with the equivalent of sock/fingering yarn at the moment. As long as you keep a firm tension, I don't see where it would be difficult. DA

Silk was hand knitted to make the fine silk hose of the great royal courts of Europe a few hurndre years ago. Silk knits just fine, but fine is the word!

What a great find, Nora! Lucky You!

Now you are going to be Busy, Busy, Busy. I like crocheting with soft fibers. I am glad you were able to find some verigated, cuz I know that you love verigated.

Ahh Nora those are the best finds, good for you.

We went to Saltspring Island today, picking up two New Zealand Ashford lincoln fleeces. One black with brown tips and the other all greys. Lincoln sheep have a lovely wavey fleece, long shiny staple like Santa's beard. I also bought some silk to weave with and a wool silk blend to make a scarf with. We had a great time and saw the first born lambs of the year. They were just a day old and delightfully funny. The sun was shining and Spring is very much here. The fruit trees are flowering in Victoria and my dwarf irises are blooming as well. Nora and Katherine, we are in the same league, as in having a great day(s)

I think it may depend on the gauge (as well as the quality of the silk to begin with). I have a worsted-weight silk sweater that pills dreadfully, but I have seen very finely spun silk that doesn't seem to pill at all. The woven silk blouses that I've seen don't pill either.

There is good silk and bad silk.
