Great idea! I wonder what the fiber is of which it is made. I'd think it would have to be something sturdier than regular yarn, else it would stretch and sink from the weight of things stored in it.

I've seen plant pot hangers done in macrame, and they're usually from a heavy twine, cotton or possibly jute (at least I think they are).

Erm... I goofed... they aren't called "Crocheted Lawn Chairs" (tells you how long it's been since I made them), they are called "Macrame Lawn Chairs" (they aren't actually macramed either... you use a crochet hook to hold the ends as you weave them... that's where I got mixed up and called them Crocheted Lawn Chairs).

When I made the lawnchairs (2... 1 in green and purple, and 1 in purple and pink) I bought the cord, including the chair frames from the place I had the lessons. I know there is a craft supply shop in the nearby city that also sells the cord. It comes in LARGE skeins, and such pretty colours too... some of it even has flecks of colours in them.

Actually the lady I took the lawnchair making lessons from (out near the beach at the time I took the lessons) moved her shop to town for a while, then was selling everything off to move to the States (Arkansas, I think) to be with her online love. So during her "going out of business sale" I bought up a lot of the skeins of cord that she had, plus one copy of each of the picture patterns for the lawnchairs, as well as a video of her showing details instructions (because I had forgotten some of the steps in doing them... it had been a few years). I didn't buy any of the frames though... she didn't really have them marked down. The patterns and video are in a plastic lidded container, and the skeins of cord have been bagged up waiting for me to have the money to buy chair frames to make them.

There are a few places online where you can order the macrame cord... I have listed a some below... including places to order the chair patterns too, in case you want to try. ;o) Oh, I see even Herrschners sells the cord needed.
