So, today a friend of mine asked me to knit him something a little weird, and I was wondering if there was anyway there was already a pattern in existence, as that would make making it easier.
Anybody know of a pattern for a Sports Coat... a blazer? A little weird, but I think it would be really cool, which is why I told him I'd think about it. And now I have this itching desire to get on it right away. Obviously, using/editing an existing pattern will make it easier.

I could do you a pattern for an old-fashioned Lumber Jacket which you could probably adapt quite easily. Here is an example of what I mean:

Tell me, how hard do you think it would be to convert a sewing pattern to a knitting pattern? I ask as there are quite a few sewing patterns available for a sports coat.

It's really just a case of knitting sections to match the pattern and then sewing it together (you'll have to consider edges if you don't intend to line it). That said you'll need to do quite a bit of planning and some good swatching etc.

Also watch out for darts or other internal shaping. You can convert these using short rows or increases and decreases, but it would take a bit of calculating.
