Waterloo County Knitters Fair S.E.X

Hi All,

I just got back from the knitters' fair in Kitchener. This was my first time going and 4 great things happened:

1) I got a door prize!! A kit for a baby sweater and hat. The yarn is a pretty navy chenille and it include dump truck buttons! I don't have any kids (yet), but I can always use the yarn for something else, or hang onto it.

2) I met the Yarn Harlot!! She was doing a book signing. I got her to sign "At Knit's End" and a copy of her new book (which I also got today). I also got my pic taken with her. I will have my BF upload it to his website when he gets home and post the link

3) I got to meet Craftkitten!! Here cast gave her away, LOL. I have a pic with her too. And may I add that her DH rocks! He held her place in line at the book signing while Darlene looked around a bit more.

4) Smokin' deals! Among other things I got:

-9 balls Rowan Cotton Wool for $45

-11 skeins 100% wool (I can't remember the manufacture name right now. I remember that the factory is in New Brunswick) for $2.99 each! I got some other deals, but those where the best.

I will post the link to the pics later, but right now, I need a nap!

Way cool, Nadia! :o) Will you be posting a picture of yourself with Darlene too?

By the way... I don't remember seeing you here before (pardon me if I'm way off), so welcome to the newsgroup! :o)

hi Gemini

I will post the pic with Darlene too, if she doesn't mind :)

Thanks for the welcome, but I have been here a while. I try to de-lurk at least once a year!

OH, Nadia, it all sounds wonderful! You lucky dick, winning a door prize! Was the wool from Briggs and Little? I think that they are in New Brunswick.

Ding ding ding!! If I had a prize, you would get it Katherine. It is Briggs and Little. I'd bring it in to look at it, but it is "hiding" in my trunk. Don't know why I bother, cause BF eventually gets the truth out of me anyway. Then he proceeds to match my spending in RC Helicopter parts!

Winning the a door prize was very cool. The prizes there are much better than what they give out at the amateur radio flea market! I think the one in Fergus gives out the same rusty exacto knife set every year.

The link will come soon, BF is on his way home!

Briggs and Little?

If you've never used it before, you be in for a bit of work you don't realize. It's fairly unprocessed, and has a fair bit of 'raw materials' spin into it (just straw). Do yourself a favour, and when you make your balls out of it, pick out what you can. You can pick out the rest as you knit with it. But aside from that, I love the stuff.

What colour did you get?

Thanks for the tip Tara.

I got 5 skiens of a demin blue colour, 4 pink, and 2 cream. The pink and the blue are Briggs and Little "Regal". The cream is a single ply yarn and I don't know the name of it.

LOL I probably knew it because I buy Briggs and Little wool every summer. It is great to knit with, and I love the colours, too.

Gee, Tara, my B&L wool is lovely - no "bits" in it at all.

Hi Nadia

Thanks for the comment about DH. Yes he was wonderful as he drove me to the show and then walked around with me and carried all the bags. I didn't get as much as you because my stash right now is way too large.

Yes DH stood in line so that I could get the new book "Yarn Harlot, the secet life of a knitter".

I picked up a few patterns today and ended up fidning out that I can get a Royal Wool Winder from a store and pick it up at the Creative Sewing and Needlework Festival in October here in Toronto. The wool winder is from an estate sale but that's fine with me.

DH did get a good chance to talk to the Yarn Harlot about how much he was enjoying her first book.

Thanks for posting the pictures and glad you won a door prize.

I am happy that my brace helped identify me and again am very happy that you introduced yourself to me. I have to admit that DH was very happy to see me smile as much as I did today.

Tara, I think that Briggs and Little mainly carry weaving yarns. They are all milled from Canadian cross breeds, most likely local sheep. They are great for weaving. Also remember everyone, Briggs and Little yarns do not felt very well. Been there done that, and no it does not work.

That is interesting Katherine, all the Briggs and Little yarns I have sitting here on the shelf are very much like the Condon Yarns (no longer available) We used to buy huge lots of white yarns for our natural dyeing sessions. I have woven many blankets out of Condon and Briggs and Little yarns. Always finding them a bit rought and indeed with bits of hay and wood in them. Maybe you are buying an other house brand...??

My daughter just moved from Kitchener to Brooks, AB. I was intending to visit at a time when the Fair was on, but just never made it at the right time. ;>( Glad to hear you enjoyed it and your yarn!

Nope, I just went and checked. Briggs and Little Regal 2 ply. It is lovely. Not as soft as some wools, but strudy-feeling, if you can picture that. I think that it is long-wearing, and great for warmth.

I am happy that you had a great time. I agree with Katherine: it is good to put faces to names.

Oooh, that colour sounds nice Brenda! Do you have a picture of it posted somewhere?

By the way, are you fairly new (I've only seen a couple of postings from you within this past week)? If so, welcome to the newsgroup.... if not, it's just me having a blonde moment. LOL

Peace! Gemini
