Thanks Mirjam

At least the competition is in late September so I have lots of time to figure out other items that I want to make and enter.

Finishing off a UFO and darned if I didn't run out of yarn just as I got down to the waist band. It's a top-down pullover. Luckily I found a coordinating yarn I can use for the waist band at the yarn shop Wednesday. Other than that, I've been playing with natural dyes, reading a lot and playing Scrabble against the computer.

After a winter of knitting scarves and more scarves, I just finished my NYCO, a triangular shawl-of-many-colors, and now I'm back to working on a Sampler Crocheted Afghan for my DD.

I am working from a Leisure Arts Leaflet of 63 different squares, and I started out with the intention of doing each one of the 63 squares in the leaflet. Part way through, after finding several of the squares were confusing at best, I decided that when I find a square that I like working on, I will do several of that square. This has made it much easier.

My DD picked out the most boring color yarn, Mainstay's Soft Beige, so I chose the Sampler afghan to make it more interesting for me to work on. I just finished the 49th square, so only 14 more to go.

Hi Rusty,

Good for you and smart thinking about making more of the favorite squares. I'd do the same thing, just don't show her the book with all the patterns, LOL

Helen are you winning from Mavin....LOL

What natural dyes are you working with. I have bought a starter kit from Earthues, but will wait until we get warmer weather so we can work outside.

Ah Katherine do not feel badley.....I am not getting lots doneeither. Even so I went to the sewing show in Victoria today with a friend. Lucky for us most of the stands were dealing with quilting. Not much knitting, spinning or weaving materials available. We did find the recycled silk saries, (respun into a heavy yarn) I came home with two lovely skeins. It certainly is not cheap. I also bought some sewing machine oil in a special bottle with a very long spout. There that is a start, I can oil my spinning wheel and sewing machines. I don't think one oils the knitting machine, but correct me if I am wrong. I bought the new Handwoven, and nearly bought the special knitting kit for $60, with the interchangeble wires and knitting needles. It sure looked nifty, but I was loath to spend that much money....Hey the silk was dear enoug. So now it is time to start working on all these outstanding project, I have some catching up to do with all of you.....huff puff

A crocheted afghan. I've never done a crochet project this big before, because I generally get bored within the first 12" of an afghan. But for this pattern, I crochet 17 different rows, then repeat 6 times. I'm about

1/3 done, and way too busy wondering what's coming up next to get bored.

I'm also stitching a needlebook for a friend and a crazy quilt wall hanging for my Mom.
