As I've also picked you! Can't resist tho.... 'tis better'n picking our noses or arses! running and ducking! Hugs, Noreen

What's stopping you from getting hold of your cousin anyway and putting in dibs on the needles? Just keep the ones your mom gave you and don't tell her about your aunt's stuff....

Hi, Sue! Nothing's stopping me.... it's just difficult getting ahold of Russ, and if I ask Renee, she'll be jealous that I'd think of asking..... Hugs, Noreen looking up Russ's number right now (why does HE have them? Cuz he got the house after his Dad died)

Of course. And he probably has no idea what to do with them so you'll be coming to his rescue. ;)

This thread brings up a question I occasionally ask myself. It may sound horrible to those who have a healthy relationship with their mother, but I'm asking because I'm curious, not because I'm a horrible person.

When I am most frustrated with my mom, I sometimes feel that when she is gone, it will be a relief and I will then be a happier person. I've never heard anyone who has lost their mother ever say anything like that though. Is that because your feelings change or because it just sounds so bad to someone who may not understand?

If anyone wants to reply to that privately, my email is

I can relate to your feelings, except that in my case, it's about my father, not my mother (my mother passed away when I was very young). My father is my father, and blood is blood -- but if we were not related, he's not someone I'd talk to much. They live out of state, I haven't seen him in decades, and I avoid calling because nothing I do ever has or ever will be right, and I end up feeling terrible. This sometimes causes me no end of guilt because of his advancing age. But I won't believe that it makes me a horrible person. No one can get along with everyone, there are some people that will never be able to see eye-to-eye, there are some people that will always be able to ruffle someone else's feathers -- and the fact that they are related doesn't change the people they are. He's him, I'm me, we're both good people in our own way, and we're individuals before we're family.

I don't know if that helps any, but the bottom line is that I don't believe for a second that your thoughts make you a horrible person. It makes you human.

Yes, I do understand about stormy relationships. I am very fortunate to say - not in my family- but certainly in two of the families I married into. Stormy really isn't the word to describe them! Why not ask your cousin about the needles too?

I can relate to your sentiments. My younger brother and I were adopted by my parents when I was 8, and she really wasn't into kids..Dad wanted us. My dad passed away when I was 15, and as soon as I could, got away from her, by joining the Navy. My mother and I fight like I don't know what if we're together for more than couple hours. After I married, while still in the Navy, and if my DH and I went to visit his parents, my mother would get jealous because I didn't spend all my vacation time with her anymore. after my girls came along, we've only vistied them twice (girls are 13, 10)..just have nothing in common with mother and stepdad..I'll talk on phone with them every 2-3 weeks but other then that, nothing. She's even forgotten my birthday for past

10 years (i'd like to forget sometimes too but my DDs always remind me!)

It's like the mother-in-law jokes except it's my own mother.

My mother was my biological mother but she didn't like me at all! For years I thought I was adopted because she used to tell me that if a child was adopted then she was chosen!!!

Norma, I can relate to how you feel even though your loss is much more recent than mine. One of my treasures is a small cat and mouse knick-knack that would have found another home long ago if it hadn't been the very last gift I received from my mother while she was alive. I still remember the day 33 years ago when I was in her bedroom to say goodbye before I left to go back to my job 250 miles away. She asked me to get a box out of her closet because she was too sick to get out of bed. The box contained several little items she had brought back from trips most likely with no specific recipient in mind and she asked me to choose one. All I really wanted was for her to live. She died 11 days later. There was one more gift: a long letter she left for my sister, brother and me to find after she was gone. Having read other responses in this thread, I feel really blessed to have had such a good and kind mother.

Hi, BB! We've discussed this offlist, but will add my two pence here, NO, you are NOT a horrible person! HUGS, Noreen

Jan, it sounds like we were both very blessed. I'm sure you still miss your mom like crazy. I know I do. I look at her picture every night and say good night to her.

I'm adding my feelings here that I was very blessed in my Mum, who always understood and backed me up. I also inherited her crafting gene, so that's one more thing to be grateful to her for Love & higs Christine

How did I know you would say something like that??? LOL
